Well, I'm not sure what you've been looking at, since this is nearly identical to Albion's (made by International Steelcrafts in India) and the previous-generation Deepeeka. I don't *think* it's the Albion one--too cheap, for one thing, and the lobed hinges (though identical in outline) are the incorrect single-layer construction. Same fancy strap and buckle fittings, same lacing loops with the loop kind of flattened. But the inside back buckles are modern roller buckles--that's not Albion. Might be an older Deepeeka, like I said, or someone else's imitation of it. From what I've seen, the new Deepeeka lorica is better overall.

On this one, the shoulder guards look fine to me, not even horribly wide like on some repros. They even got the center plate of the upper shoulder guard right, rectangular instead of pentagonal. But yeah, they built all their hinges wrong, copied a very overused rare style for the strap and buckle plates and the lacing loops, and the plates don't properly overlap where they are hinged together. Too heavy, too!

I think someone else was asking me about this very piece last week or so. Same pink dot inside... Who the heck is the manufacturer?

but gee, Vibius, spending so much time spend under the eagle you apparently never took a close look to your segmentata?

nope i looked plenty at my own segmentata, which was very nice...

however for the true hobbyist it could be a cheap alternative for only 150 + us$ mind you... as i already stated some work.....

PS: Matt...... removing all hinges and buckle plates to correct the errors still gets you a fairly cheap and reasonable segmie........

I know our segmentatas were at least octuple the price!!

hehehehe not that id buy this myself mind you!

too busy with my samurai stufffff

This thing looks like the first seg i got back in 11th grade. Mine has the letter "D" stamped on the underside of the shoulder plates. I kinda broke most of the fittings along the way so i had to make new ones, the only thing i haven't replaced are the steel plates themselves i think they could be Stainless but i'm not 100% sure.

Considering that hinges and fittings are most of the work on a lorica, I would never buy this one just to "fix it up"! You'd be left with plates that are too thick and, as mentioned, possibly stainless steel. And it might not fit! Not to mention chrome-tanned straps, galvanized washers, maybe aluminum rivets... Easier to scrounge your own steel from trash piles and build the whole thing from scratch.

Spend a little more for something vastly better, or save the money and put yourself through weeks of torment for a very iffy result! I know what my advice would be.

If all you need is a cheap "try on" piece for a museum, or a nice stage prop, sure, this one will do fine.
