Do I remember correctly that someone tried a speculative reconstruction of a Kalkriese segmentata? I was in a discussion with someone on the relative complexity of that vs. the corbridge and was going on way too much speculative memory.
I searched back in the threads for a year and didn't see it. The "search" function still leaves a lot to be desired.
Other than the one upper guard and hinge, has any more of one been found?

This what you're looking for?
http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/kalkriese
There's a link on my Kalkriese Lorica page, oddly enough:
http://www.larp.com/legioxx/kalklor.html
I don't have as much information, though. A few other possible bits have been found which help, though they aren't necessarily from the Kalkriese types. For instance, the Chichester backplate shown has Corbridge-style hinges, and the Chichester shoulder guard has all those Corbridge-style bosses. To me, that points more towards a Chichester variant of the Corbridge lorica, though it could certainly be a "missing link" between that and the Kalkriese. And I don't mind interpolating back from those Chichester pieces to a possible Kalkriese reconstruction, though I wouldn't send the plans off to Deepeeka for mass-production just yet!
Planning on making one?

Sure, everyone has a corbridge or newstead. Good winter project, right, and fits in with the National Geographic shoot, if that ever happens.

Ok it's been a few years since anyone has posted on this topic. So has anyone come up with any new info on the Kalkreise seg? I am having someone make one and would like to get as much info for them before we try to put it together. I hope somebody has something new to report.
Thanks,
Bryan

Imperium in California carries one, reportedly advised partly by Mike Bishop. Buckles front and rear on the girdle plates. I don't know for sure about finding more parts, but my foggy brain says I've read they've found some somewhere. Dunno for sure.

I'm having one made, but as you say there is much to speculate on. The girdle plates are fastened by the hook and lace method in the one I am getting.
I can live with that.

I've been talking with Matt Lukes about this. We kind of know what the upper part looked like and agree on that part. The thing we are doing the most speculating on is the girdle plates. I was thinking about the buckle and strap method.
Byron, what made you go with the loop and lace on yours?
I'm not sure how to address this, buckles or loops.?.?.? :?
Any info anyone could give me would be great.

As far as I know the buckle and strap method is mostly based on speculation and will mean you have to replace those quite often. I personally don't agree with that method and would opt for the lace method, as used on the other types of segmentata.

Bryan, I just went with the armourers interpretation.
I was intrigued by the buckle method too, but like Jurjenus, I was put off at the prospect of replacing them. I guess that is psychological.

What if the buckle and strap were the first method, replaced by the loops and ties for the very reasons you have suggested? The plain leather strap (unless that was a field repair in the first place) found on the plate might have been replaced with the brass-reinforced one for the same reason.
Just more speculation. Until one is dug up somewhere, we can't say for sure, right? So one speculation is as good as another, within reason.
