Introduction to ancient warfare (Dutch)
#1
During the RAT-meeting in Augsburg, my friend Marco (not a Rat-er) remarked that one of the things he missed when he was browsing on this site, was a list of books for beginners. I think he is right; the indispensable booklist we offer in the review section is perhaps a bit too difficult. Another point that occured to me: English is not everyone's native language and for enthusiastic young people, or elderly people, Anglo-Saxon books may be a bit difficult.

So I propose we make a short list of books for beginners (I do not like this expression, because it sounds belittling).

For Dutch readers, I would suggest:
* Luuk de Blois/Bert van der Spek, Een kennismaking met de oude wereld
* Henk Singor, Homerische helden
* Henk Singor, Grieken in oorlog

to which I hesitate to add my own book on Alexander the Great and my forthcoming book on ancient battle narratives. Did I miss something?

Translated sources:
* Herodotos, Het verslag van mijn onderzoek (vertaling Hein van Dolen)
* Xenophon, Anabasis (vertaling Marc Moonen)
* Livius, Zonen van Mars (vertaling Hetty van Rooijen)
* Caesar, Oorlog in Gallië (vertaling Vincent Hunink)
* Caesar, Burgeroorlog (vertaling Hetty van Rooijen)
* Flavius Josephus, Joodse oorlog (vertaling Meijer/Wes)

Question 1: Who can improve this list? (feel free to throw off my books)
Question 2: Can someone make similar lists for German, Italian, French, etc.?
