Salve TIB. CLAVDIVS ZENO
Sorry about the delay in writing, I do not chek in as often as I would like to.
Hamata chest size 46"
Hamata expands as you know but should not fit at extreme stretch.
with a 46" chest and the proper Sub, the hamata should expand to 54" fully stretched about the size of a XLsweatshirt.
If you plan to build it on your own, let me know and I send you some instructions.

Maille does not expand like a shirt so you will need a much larger hamata than your chest size. Steve of Forthcaste ( a past maker and vendor of maille ) used to say that you need a shirt that is 1/3 larger than your chest size plus any padding.

Jsantell,
you are correct in that if a shirt is said to say fit 46 inches, it will only expand out to 46 inches. After that, it will not give any more.

Find It Armory has a two versions that come standard with a 50 inch chest, but is capable of having a shirt custom made to be a bit bigger.

I have 42 inch chest and 32 inch waist, and it fits very comfortable to include once I wear a tshirt, tunic, and subarmalis underneath it all.

Here is the link.

With apologies to TIB. CLAVDIVS ZENO, since we are not sure about the nature of the help you require that two replies to your question were spent in trying to debunk my reply to you.

I would like to address both jsantell, and arklore70, and ask the following questions How many complete Hamatas with doublers have you made personally? Have you manufactured chainmaille for other time periods?

Well gentlemen, I have,..... five complete Hamatas with doublers, and 8 complete haukberts (knee Length) with coifs two with full mantels. In future you might want to check a guys credentials prior to trampling him into the ground in a rush to further your own agenda.

I am truly puzzled where jsantell and I have trampled you into the ground and what agenda you think it is that we are promoting. Please clarify where you feel I have trampled and flamed anything that you have said in a PM.

I know in my case I was being helpful, and I am 99.99% sure so was jsantell.

While I have nowhere near the experience with maille like Erik D. Schmind does, I do have practical working experience with it. thus why I replied to the post.

Just were do you see attempts to debunk your reply, trample you into the ground or further their own agendas Robert? No one said anything about your posting at all- the information they posted was their own and not a commentary on what you said. Actually, it seems to me that both subsequent posts confirm what you said about mail not being sufficiently able to stretch and that a rather larger size than one's measurements is required. Juan passed on information given him by a mail-maker, and Mike only mentioned his own personal experiece and one needs not have ever made mail to know what works for him, yes? The only personal comments I see here are yours. If you feel others are wrong and you are right, say why without getting confrontational please- this should be a discussion not an argument.

On a related point, I have ordered Find-It Armory hamata, which is 46'' in the chest, but my chest is rather smaller than that. This is probably not a problem, correct? :?

I didn't mean to offend anyone, in fact I don't even understand the nature of the offence.
