Just to further add something funny, beyond what Raeticus brought to your attention.

Ebay search for
"Roman Imperial bronze centurion's crested helmet"

Same seller sold such notible items as the "fask mask", "cavalry helmet".

Yikes. Looks more like a helmet from "Sparticus" that has been given some treatment.

Anyone else feel this item is a little suspect?

the rust seems to be similar the other ones we have seen here on RAT, guess that was a big hole he got that stuff from.

he asks 6500 dollar ?!!, item location Limburg (netherlands). finding place for alomost everything he sells is the Balkans....

Can't believe that people actually buy this stuff.

... but a very pretty item as base for a reconstructed higher officer's helmet. I would like to have it uncorroded and for further reworking as a reenactment kit.

Why has this seller not been reported yet?? It's criminal! The extortionate prices asked for these blatant fakes is astounding! I see that his other items are authentic, so is he just a middle-man?

Yes, right now Sirmium is the most endangered site in Serbia. Some progress has been achieved in protecting Viminacium from plunderers, but Sirmium and its vicinity are completely unprotected. Sad
