all this gladii are made by me.The part most complicate like the embossed plate of the fulham or the opus interralis are made from my sister that is magister of art.The lides for the rings of the scabbards did for me Erik konig.

Whose research is this? Only one type of Mainz scabbard actually features large embossed plates on its front side.

There are examples from Vindonissa, Strassbourg, and a number of other sites of embossed manizensis scabbard plates- complete or nearly complete, no?

The Fulham Scabbard's central plate has a slightly recessed flange at its upper edge, which certainly seems to suggest there was at least one further panel in the vacant area above it. And since the other examples known are either single long plates for the whole body- all have separate top portions- or, like the Fulham, have a large central plate with a separate 'chape' plate, as well as the fact that a number of separate embossed lower plates are known from Vindonissa, for example, it seems just as likely that the Fulham also once had one there. This all to me suggests that indeed mainzensis scabbards were generally fully-covered. Even the simpler forms were- like the Tiberius, Mainz, etc. Only the back seems to have been left open.

I could have missed something, but all the Mainz-type scabbards shown in Miks seem to be fully covered in the front by metal plates, whether embossed or not.

Gladii decorated with opus interrasile have too "full plates on the exposed side of the scabbard".

But the "Porto Vechio/ Long Windsor/ Valkenburg" type, don't have metalic plates.

I just finished altering my Deepeeka gladius. After reading the last few posts I see it's not really very accurate, but I enjoyed learning some new skills. I'll just have to make another one now :lol:
