RAT RTW tournament?
#1
So how many RAT-ers play Rome Total War and fancy themselves good tacticians?
Would it be fun to organize a little tournament? With the realism mod or without it? Set armies?
Greets
I've never tried any online gaming with RTW. I tried using that 'GameSpy' thingy to use MTW online and gave up - not exactly intuitive!

But I'd be keen to give it another try to battle my Germanics against any Romans who care to take me on. But please - if we do this let's make it a 'Rome: Total Realism' tournament only. I can't bring myself to go back to those silly wardogs and screeching women.

I suppose we could do that, or just make rules that say: No silly units!
Greets
I haven't even installed it yet, but I'd definitely be interested once I figure out how to play it. I believe there's a fair number of morons on the general RTW online servers calling people 'noob' etc if they lose or just started. I'm sure you lot wouldn't do that Would you?

No, no, of course not. Maybe the final victor would be allowed one post on RAT to gloat in, but that'll be all!
Greets
Jasper, that's cool. In fact, I think the vanquished should have to proclaim how great the victor was in a thread Or they wait at least a week before participating again But if anyone screams 'noob' (the ultimate online insult usually spoken by a 'nob') they should have to wait 2 weeks

I think we should hold a virtual triumph for the victor.

Anyone using teenie game-lamer terms like 'noob', 'owned' or 'pwned' will be dragged behind the victor's chariot in chains and then strangled in the depths of the Mamartine Prison, as is traditional.
I downloaded GameSpy, but for some reason I can't get it to recognise the ID I set up for it ... *wanders away grumbling*
Do you have a favourite server to play it on? If so, you may be able to join it directly at the server's IP address from a shortcut to the game on your desktop. At least you can with Call Of Duty, so it may be possible. I can post how to do it if the above applies and you're not sure.

I used to use Gamespy, but gave up once I'd figured out the best servers to play on.

I'm up for this! And yes, lets use RTR. Which version will we be using? The latest? I'm still using 5.2, only because I haven't finished my campaign. Oh and what settings too? The largest? I'll need a new video card for that.

It never got off the ground. Time to see who is still up for it. And instead of just gloating, perhaps we could throw in a RAT T-shirt for the winner? Or, of course, a new medal to sport on RAT?

I'm in provided that we play on RTW with the 1.5 patch (I don't have RTR and in order to install it I have to re-install RTW and BI, then make two separate backups as RTR is run on 1.2, I think).

Does anyone use the SPQR mod, by the way?

If we are to play it on RTW vanilla, I would like to propose the following settings (these were used in some major tournaments):

Map: Grassy Flatland (any flat non-desert map will do)
Season, time of the day: Summer, midday.

Denarii level: 12,500 denarii.
Units: Max 6 per unit (i.e. max 6 triarii, max 6 Roman archers, max 6 hastati etc.)
Max 8 total cavalry (horse archers, chariots, cavalry, camelry, elephants (max 2 elephants).
Fire arrows allowed.
Cantabrian Circle allowed.

How's this sound?
