NAME: Late Roman Event

DATES: from Thursday July 26th, 2007 (arrival) to Monday July 30st , 2007 (departure)
EVENT: from Friday August 3rd to Sunday August 5th

To all groups and individuals interested in participating in a Late Roman Event.
Vale,

I’m very glad to be able to write to you all and to invite you again to a Late Roman Event, to be held again next year at the Archaeological Park Archeon, The Netherlands.
This years’ event has been the second time the Late Roman Event was held, and it was deemed a great success. The only thing we’ve changed is the duration – 4 days have proved a bit too long, so we went back to 3 days.

If you attended this year or last year, we’re glad to invite you to return!
For those who did not attend this year or last year, you can get a good idea from the Fectio (that’s us) website: http://www.fectio.org.uk/shows/archeon2005.htm and http://www.fectio.org.uk/shows/archeon2006.htm .

Why Archeon?
Archeon is a historical theme park ( http://www.archeon.nl ), which has been in operation since about 10 years. While some parts are showing landscapes and buildings from earlier and later periods (Stone Age, Bronze Age, Middle Ages), we feel the best part of the park is the Roman period. This part, with the basilica-like bath-house, the inn, the small temple, the potter’s house and of course the arena is best suited to display our period to the public.

What’s going to be different?
This year we made a successful alteration to the very full, back-to-back program of the first edition. The show, like this year, will be divided into three main parts, with additional elements that
This year we did a presentation and missile firing, followed by the Roman equipment evolution and lastly the cavalry training. This is not written in stone and ideas are always welcome! Extra show elements are also welcome.

What’s on offer?
I would like to ask each group/individual who decides they want to attend next year to contact me.
On offer is travel money, free on-site lodging and food. This also means lodging in the Roman buildings, which I’m told was very pleasant for most groups.
All other costs such as travelling expenses and possible fees must be negotiated by each group/individual with the events manager of Archeon, Jocelyne Assink or the manager, Jack Veldman. I’m afraid we have no authority to do that for you, but we will help where we can. Archeon can offer to compensate only part of the travelling expenses.

Well, that’s about it for now. I really hope everyone can join the event for next year. So greetings for now and I hope I hear very soon from all of you.

Valete,
Valerius/Robert Vermaat and Chariovalda/Andreas Baede
