Does anyone have any experience of Slingshot magazine, the bi-monthly mag from the Society of Ancients, intended for serious wargamers?

I'm looking at their index of articles and it's very comprehensive:

Samples I've read seem very well researched, and it's clear the authors have a wealth of knowledge on their subjects. It seems to be a worthwhile resource to have access to.

Yes, I was a member for a year or two. It did have some nice articles. but lots of stuff that was - understandably - very wargames oriented.

Thanks Jasper. It's interesting to see articles listed there by Jon Coulston, Duncan Head, and Adrian Goldsworthy.

And the ones by Phil Barker on Tunics in the third century. Anyone have these?

Waldemar Heckle cites it a dozen times in the mammoth bibliography of the Hellenistic era which he maintains on his website. Clearly he finds it useful, although I have never seen a copy so can't comment from experience (it certainly isn't on the usual lists of popular or scholarly magazines carried by libraries).

I have not checked this forum frequently since 2013, but I hope that these old posts have some value. I now have
a blog on books, swords, and the curious things humans do with them.

I saw the title of this thread and thought it was going to be about a magazine-fed repeating slingshot. What a disappointment.

Yes, I've subscribed for a number of years- the research articles can be top class- often on subjects that seem obscure but are (when you read them) rather fascinating.
Graham-I'll look up the Roman tunics article- do you know when it came out?
Cheers

Hello Paul
Thanks for that, I would certainly be interested in a copy. Perhaps Nik would be kind enough to help out with details as he is the editor.
I note there is also an article on the leather muscled cuirass!

There is one from July 1970 on C3rd Roman clothing by Barker. Is that the one you mean?
