Short review of Albion NG Pedite and Allectus!
#1
Last Saturday I had the chance to meet with some of the WMA community here in Sweden for a get together in Uppsala and on the schedule of the day where a presentation by Peter Johnsson and Søren Niedziella of the some of Albion's Next Generation Line swords. Among them the Pedite and the Allectus.

To begin with there was a big heap of boxes in the corner of the hall and many eyes where drawn to it the whole morning. On top of the stack where two smaller boxes and I felt like a kid on x-mas. At last came the opening...

First out where the Pedite. At this I may say that my experience with Gladii hasn´t been very extensive but I have handled a few replicas in the 100+ Euro price range. But this was much more than the the 5 times cost. A fantastic little blade. The finish where excellent, almost too good. Details on the handle and the smooth surfaces on the wood parts very nice. The weapon just screamed stab.

But when the Allectus came out my heart almost stopped. The geometry and feel of this weapon where without compere in my short experience. The hilt details where even more perfect then the Pedite and the blade so beautiful... Well I had still a mental note on the price tag but then Søren said that he had worked out some finer details on that, and could now deliver it in my hand at the spot for 500 Euro. This makes it hard to refuse but I held on and has now put in an order for the Auxillae spatha instead.

Overall impression is that this is the best line production gladii I´ve seen or heard of. The price around 500 Euro is high but will give you something you can show even your "non-roman" friends and they could get a appreciation of very nice sword.

Maybe they are as good as you say..

But I still think it a bl.... shame that they raised their prices even further and discontinued their Late Roman spathae line. :x

Martin,

I agree with you completely. I own an Albion Allectus with a custom scabbard from Christian Fletcher. Other blades I have seen do not compare, and I found it worth the price -- and their customer service is first class.
