Ok, here's the results of Babel fish translation attempts.

Dutch:
Hallo, ik ben een lid van Roman Army Talk en ik leer hier heel erg veel van.
Dutch to English:
Hello, I am a member of novel Army tallow and I learn of this complete a lot much.
English to Italian:
Ciao, sono un membro del sego dell'esercito del romanzo ed imparo di questo completo mólto molto.
Italian to English:
Hello, they are a member of I saw of the army of the novel and learn of this suit mólto a lot.
English to Spanish:
Hola, son un miembro del mí vieron del ejército de la novela y aprenden de este mólto del juego mucho.
Spanish to English:
Hello, they are a member of me they saw of the army of the novel and learn much of this mólto of the game.
English back to Dutch:
Hello, zijn zij een lid van me zij zagen van het leger van de roman en leren veel van dit mólto van het spel.

Of course by including English words in the Dutch sentence to begin with, you rigged the outcome. :wink:

Duh. It translated 'army' alright, did it not?

Actually, it translated 'roman' and 'talk' correctly, since they are both Dutch words (as non-Dutch speakers probably do not realise), but not army. As you can see from the other translation attempts, the algorithm simply leaves unknown words in place. Since army is not a dutch word, it remained the same in the translation.

At the moment, there's a congress of internet specialists in Amsterdam and yesterday I spoke to a man who was involved in developing translation software. He told that there had been an experiment to translate English texts to English dialects. I've forgotten why this was done, but remember the outcome. In attempt to translate the American Declaration of Independence into Californian, "We, the people..." was rendered ad "Us guys..."

Then it will be my mistake, the guy was Irish and knows the English language better.

"American English" language isn't quite the same as "British English", but if the British speak slowly enough, we can usually pick up the drift, as it were.

It's kind of fun to translate a sentence to say, Italian, then back to English, and see what comes of that. But any way you go, it's better than non communicating, right? That's a heckuva piece of software! hock:
