60 BC Gladius
#1
This is a sort of test. Without saying anything specifically bad about suppliers or vendors, where is the best place to get an Infantry Sword with scabbard, set from the time of 60-50BC? Discuss accuracy, price, delivery time without saying anything that could get us sued. Big Grin

Well that would be the hispaniensis, yes? Mark Morrow makes a really nice blade- I just made a grip and a Ljubljanica scabbard for it (although I don't know what the date of that scabbard is).

Erik makes a fantastic copy of the hispaniensis from the river Ljubljanica (Slovenia) published by Janka Istenic in volume 11 of JRMES.

I can assure you the Morrow-Lukes combination is fantastic Big Grin

I had the luck to carefully examine the blade by Morrow and the handle and scabbard Matt made and it's really an exelent sword. VERY close to the original. Matt used a chisel to do the 'snake heads' and such. This gives a very authentic look. It looks like a sturdy battle ready weapon.

Oh and the blade was razor sharp so you might want to think about asking Mark not to sharpen it too much. You get cut just by looking at the thing... It's a blade I can imagine being used for lobbing off limbs and cleaving skulls...

I think the sword is probably as good as the one from Erik and costs only a small fraction of that price....
