Hi

Roman Military Clothing 1 has a picture of one boot from Qasr Ibrim as well as a reconstruction of a pair.

Graham.
"Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream" Edgar Allan Poe.

"Every brush-stroke is torn from my body" The Rebel, Tony Hancock.

"..I sweated in that damn dirty armor....TWENTY YEARS!', Charlton Heston, The Warlord.

Take a look at...

Driel-Murray, C. van, 2001, Footwear in the North-Western Provinces of the Roman Empire. In : Stepping through time. Archaeological footwear from prehistoric times until 1800, Zwolle, 337-376.

Shows an image and also a rough sketch of the upper leather pattern of a so called Fell boot (ca. 100 AD). (I know a shoemaker who can make such boots - just send me a PM if you interested)

Greetings,
Florian

depends on what you are actually thinking of when saying calcei - I can send you pics of the Mainz calcei mentioned above as well as a couple of other shoes of similar design. What do you have in mind?

Hi. Thanks for the images.

At least I saw the posts now
That's one really beautiful pair of shoes...

I'm definitely considering making a par of calcei, but don't fully understand from the drawing how the upper was sewn to the sole.
Any ideas?
