Ostrogothic helmets
#1
Hi.

Does anyone out there have any info on Ostrogothic helmets?

I have a few sources for basic spang types but I'm curious about the one depicted on the Gothic warrior in Ospreys, Atilla and the Huns.

This helm is conical in shape and appears to be constructed by four plates, rivetted together, with no frame work on the outside.

I have a later Polish great helm which is constructed in a similar fashion, ie no frame work, with the plates rivetted to each other, in this case the front and rear are attached to side plates, whereas the Osprey version appears to show the side plates rivetted to the front and back, although this is not 100% clear.

If possible I wanted to convert the Polish helm into the Goth one...any ideas or assistance would be greatly appreciated Smile
