Ok now I get where you are coming from. Steppe/Desert Cultures are the middlemen. The only problem is the Babylonian reference in Gilgamesh to "Tiamat" a chief female deity in the form of the dragon. Now I am bad at chronology between China and the Western civilizations and don't have a clear understanding of when Gilgamesh is supposed to have taken place. Would the cultures of Babylon (or eastern provinces) have trade with the Chinese? This is getting interesting! Maybe dragon history should go to another thread? It's up to you guys. I think this could go on for awhile.
