I think the problem here is that this stele is not complete -- the top is missing, and he's supposed to have a helmet on his head.

u mean it could be the helm-part and they painted it wrong.damn!

Ulpius is right. The figure used to have a helmet from the tomb of Aristion. You could see the complete work in "Bunte Götter" (coloured gods) ISBN: 3-933200-08-3
