Museum Standards and Sharing organization
#1
Being an XML proponent, I've been wondering when the museum community would get around to agreeing on a standard for cataloging and describing collections. Guess they're getting there: the Consortium for Museum Intelligence is worth looking at; the premise is that when all museums catalog using the same XML language, you will be able to search across all of them simultaneously.
Rich, you may be interested to know that the U.S. Army Museum System artifact collections world-wide are fully digilitized and interface with the HQs in Washington. Of course, this is just boring U.S. Army artifacts, no Roman military equipment.

By the way, not sure if this is your department, but my little picture posting icon disappeared some time ago. No biggie, but if you can fix it please try. Also, it seemed that before, once I logged in, I didn't have to do it every post. Now I do. Also not a big deal, but just wondering.
I"ll look into that image thing; I wonder if the ISP is timing out, or EZboard, since I too have been losing my 'cookie' or however EZboard keeps state. Just on odd occasions; not all the time.
Dan, I'd be interested in knowing how the Army keeps track of all that. Any website or info on the technique available?
Richard Campbell, Legio XX

Rich, that's what its called, and the latest version was done by a company called MADENTECH. They made the program. Every artifact in the army has a unique number. I don't think there is an expanatory website but drop by the Fort Meade Museum and ask Bob or Barbara if they'd show you how it works.

Of course, if you come over for the RAT Roundup, you can come here first and go up with us.

So can you recover my picture icon from previous posts, or do I have to send it again, and to who? I think I sent it to Jenny the first time.
Rich, yep, that's them.
I suggested this, as geographically, it may be the closest U. S Army museum to you.

So what about fixing my icon?
Thanks. Unless I go down to SE DC to the Army War College, but I dont' think that's a museum.
We found the image directory, and your icon is there. Someone mentioned that you have to be logged into RAT first before the icon will display. Do you log in each time you get here?
Richard Campbell, Legio XX
Yes, I have to log in each time I want to make a reply, but under the posting options there is no longer the option to post the icon. It has just seemed to have vanished.
I'll have to ask EZboard, because I just found the icon upload utility, and looked at all the icons, and your's is definitely there.
Dan, make sure you have the icon set in your My Account/Preferences/personal icon URL and not in your Personal Photo

And also, be sure you login before you add a reply or start a thread.
Richard Campbell, Legio XX
Rich, right now for my posting options in only lists:
ex codes emoticons and convert URL links. I though it was down in this block where it also gave you the option to post the photo. So how to do get into the system to check. I never changed anything and it used to work. It seems though that I could only post the icon from my home computer, never at work. I use both with about equal frenquency.
Maybe you should try re-downloading the icon to the EZ board data base. Maybe the old one is starting to lose some of it's colour anyway, right Rich?

Rather than burying this here, I'm going to carry the thread over to the admin section. Time to start looking for quirks in EZboard.
As it is Dan, I'm pursuing an answer with EZboard on this one.
Richard Campbell, Legio XX
