Auxiliary Units in First Century AD Britain
#1
I have been trying to put togetrher a list of Auxiliary Units in 1st Century AD Britain. I have the following list, and what method was used to "verify" that the unit was there, (if any). I would appreciate any additions and helpful comments.

Auxiliary units during the invasion AD43-44
We divide the units in different groups.
Units identified from the written record. (Cassius Dio)
COHORT I BATAVORVM; COHORT II BATAVORVM;
COHORT III BATAVORVM; COHORT IV BATAVORVM
COHORT V BATAVORVM; COHORT VI BATAVORVM
COHORT VII BATAVORVM; COHORT VIII BATAVORVM
Units identified from artifacts dated close to the time of the invasion.
ALA I THRACVM; COHORS VI THRACVM EQ
ALA INDIANA GALLORVM; ALA VETTINVM
Other units suspected to have been there.

I am only trying to list units that were in Britian from the period of AD43-AD100. Are all of these units there at that time? I can dig out the Spaul books, but even then, sometimes we can't tell when a unit originally arrived, but only when the first (known) member's died. But if a unit is raised in the second century, it was surely not in Britain during the invasion or the first century.....

Right, quite a lot of the units listed were not part of the invasion force in 43! My error! :oops:

Don't forget the Tungrians that were part of the auxiliary force that were at Mons graupius.
