Wish I knew. Unfortunately, like most images I collected during my 7 dissertation years, I barely had any time to even quickly surf & download, only recorded the item's details (when available).

From it's appearance, I wonder if it's part of a sarcophagus.

Arahne: Thanks for kind reminder.

I found thousands of good to great photographs of Roman items in the "Flickr" website:

[url:1nxrn9e8]http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=roman[/url]

This image storage/sharing website may have more Roman images than any other storage/sharing website.

I used "Roman" and other key search words, in different languages, to find images of interest.

You can then look through the images, and click on related links for more images, to find the images that you may want.

Some images come in several sizes. These are indicated by the clickable "ALL SIZES" icon next to the top left corner of images that are available in several sizes. Clicking on the icon takes you to another webpage, where you can select the image size(s) that you want.

Happy hunting! +r

Quote:I stumbled across a great academic image website, includes some Roman period Jewish art & architecture images.

I'm downloading like crazy (now recording website links for credits) while it's still open. Here today may be gone tomorrow!

After I finish, I'll provide more details. Most images are large, may exceed R.A.T. pixel &/or Byte size limits... If so, I'll check with Jasper on more posting options, or I can post smaller copies.

Good webpage on the Jewish community of Rome:

Good website for Jewish Rome tours. 8)

If I ever can return to Rome, I'd very much like their tour.

2000 years of family history, traditions passed from generation to generation, probably at least 65 generations. Confusedhock: Wow! 8)

(I can track my family history back only to the late 14th century, and that's only one of many family lines. Sad )

If you decide to contact them, please use their email address. They emphatically ask that people call their phone number *only* for emergencies.

I think I know that Micaela; she was working at the Synagogue a year and a half ago, I think. If she really is the same lady, she's an excellent guide indeed.

A great movie about the getto in Rome: La finestra di fronte.

I'm currently reading this book and I find it facinating:

Jona & Jim: Thank you both!

Found another good Jewish history website:

http://www.hebrewhistory.info/

Includes many articles with Jewish - Roman links, and Jewish - early Christian links.

Sample article: The Jews of Aquilea: A Judaic Community - Lost to History
