well, I have been doing Roman Re-enactment sincxe the 1980's other re-enactment in the US was popular in the 1960's and 1970's. We have re-enactors as young as 12 in my group, I figure they'll still be arouund when you grow up.

Hey, if I knew all that I'd have earned a zillion buck with my fortune-telling talents!!! Big Grin D D
But I'll try to interest my kids for the hobby, my son (5) already seems to like it a lot! If the public stays interested there's every chance this thing will thrive for years to come. Archaeological Parks are being built, reconstructions are planned in many places, groups become more and more professional. What started out as a hobby for just a few now has the backing of many scientists and thousands of hobbyists. More and more companies sell re-enactment stuff.
Sure, groups come and groups go. People start and people lose interest. That happens. But on the whole, with support like through this forum, it becomes easier and easier to start and reach a high level.

Francis...aren't there any legions in your state? And how old are you?

And you can always start collecting the equipment now.

The enemy is less likely to get wind of an advance of cavalry, if the orders for march were passed from mouth to mouth rather than announced by voice of herald, or public notice. Xenophon

YOU ARE WELCOME TO DRESS HOWEVER YOU WANT.
However, some groups may not want you to join them.
For example, don't show up to a strict mid-first century AD event dressed in 5th century armor and clothing, if you want to be accepted. Don't show up to an event where the red tunic is being used, wearing your white tunic, and refuse to change. (I carry different colors if I am not sure.)

It's all about getting along with people. If you have your own group, make your own rules, if you play with other groups, find out their rules and obey them if you want to play.

It is like showing up for a football game.... are you playing American, Australian or European football? If you don't play by the same rules as the main group, you won't be welcome.
