Francis, welcome back from your vacation.

Now what makes you think anyone here would know the answer to that question? This is a Roman military history forum. We don't know anything about the Internet, you know. Strictly B.C., young friend, as in Before Computers...

(Isn't that right, Jasper? )

Try this website: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... fault.mspx

Or:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/win.html

Francis, if and when such files are offered on the internet, you can often 'right-click' on them and select 'save as' to store them on your computer.
Free music is somewhat more problematic. Peer-to-peer exchange programs are probably what you need. However, as the legality of this type of software is dubious, I should probably not explain more.
Try downloading Apple's iTunes - it will work on your PC - you can use it to play and manage your music and videos and allows you to download music for I think 99c per song.

Beware Napster, Kazaa, and the like. They're fine for getting what you want, but they can have hidden extras like viruses embedded in the downloads. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

Amazon have free music downloads. Throwing Music has an option to donate.

Don't forget the good old BBC, where you can listen to live radio, as well as stream radio shows and TV programmes for free, as part of their "on demand" initiative.

Check out this site. Prides itself on being legal.

That's true....I tried downloading Troy at one time and it came complete with a Trojan Horse....the virus type!!!
Luckily my anti-virus program warned 'Greeks bearing unwanted gifts'
I could see the funny side of it though......
