5th centiury sword handle

I am making a friend a sword up as a present.

It needs to be 450 to 500AD.

I am having trouble finding a good picture to work to. Can someone help ?

Try this (probably) Gothic example from the Crimea. Its cloisonne jewelled decoration is fairly elaborate, but a more plain version without all the gold and garnets based on the same design would be what many richer East Germanic, Alanic, Sarmatian and Hunnic warriors used.

Further west, you get very similar Frankish examples like this.

Roman swords in the Fifth Century were developments from earlier cavalry swords and had larger pommels, but similar blade shapes and hilts.

The hilt from Illerup is from around 200 AD so it doesnt fit the timeframe.

Supposing you are looking for germanic hilts, you would be better off
looking at Nydam IV 450-475 AD
