Alexander as an Indian God?
#16
I think that "fairer" is also a reference to Achilles, to whom Alexander was likened. One also wonders how Plutarch knows what Alexander looked like, because he is incapable of distinguishing good and bad sources. The falsifications that he quotes (especially the Letters) are a case in point.

In the Mediteranean 25 % percent of people have "fair" caracteristics as opposed to North Europe where 75 % of the people have them.
The Molossoi royal family (Olympias) had red hair according to many ancient source. The genetic make up of the remains found in Ioannina graves 30 years ago seems to confirm that. Same in the Thesprotia graves. The Argead Royal family (Philip) had "fair" caracteristics too. Alex had more likely "honey" coloured hair with a possible "redish" shade after exposure to the tropical sun. I do not agree with Mr. Mc Bride giving him "viking" looks.

If you can sit through 2 hours of 'my name is Michael Caine....' admittedly a good actor, but we all have somebody who grates on our nerves...!
I think the only film I ever liked him in was Zulu.....
However I may watch this film for the 'obvious' reasons.....
Is Roxane supposed to be a ghost or reincarnation, a la the Mummy films...?

The enemy is less likely to get wind of an advance of cavalry, if the orders for march were passed from mouth to mouth rather than announced by voice of herald, or public notice. Xenophon

The transmission of Hellenistic iconography to the East itself is a subject that is barely tapped.

See these for some interesting reading:
