Lecture on Parthian history
#1
On Tuesday 13 June 2006, dr. Farhad Assar, Sir Harold Bailey Research Associate at St Catherine's College, Oxford, will lecture on Parthian Chronology (between 250 and 50 BC), in the Graduate Seminar Room of the Khalili Research Centre in Oxford (No. 3, St. John Street - on the west side of the Ashmolean Museum), from 14.00 to 16.00.

The subject has not received much attention yet. Even the article on ancient Parthia in the Cambridge History of Iran is, essentially, nothing but an update of publications by Debevoise in the 1930's. In the meantime, many new coins, ostraca, and cuneiform tablets have been discovered.

Mr. Assar is a leading authority on Parthian coinage and is preparing a publication of the new sources. He has already been able to reconstruct the Parthian calendars and the Arsacid family tree. His researches are discussed at [url:125b1iqx]http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Iranica-L/[/url]
