Construction question: Niedermörmter & Guttmann helmets

Here's a question for the metallurgically savvy in the crowd.

The Imperial-Italic H helmet found at Niedermörmter has decorated trim consisting of tiny bumps. The similar helmet found in the Guttmann collection is iron with copper alloy decorations. How were these decorative pieces attached?

The originals have a rather thin pearl-beaded wire soldered on to the shell of the helmet. They are not raised/punched dots.
