Cohors II Italica Civium Romanorum Re established
#1
Romans, Friends, and Allies,

We of Legio VI FFC are proud to announce the re establishment of Cohors II Italica Civium Romanorum , an Auxlilary Cohort . Please feel free to view our new web site and to contact us. The establishment of this organization has been a project under consideration for nearly a year. Please come and check us out.

We would like to give a very well deserved and public word of praise and thanks to Peroni/ Mr. Adrian Wink, whose tireless and endless assisantce to this endeavor has now born fruit. Adrian, like I said, a lot of beer is on me should we ever cross paths Smile

We'd also like to thank Legio XX for being a great influence as well.

Jasper we'd also like to thank you and all the members of RAT, for the assistance, information and scholarship provided.

While our primary focus is on Cohors II Italica C.R. we would like to be a leader in Auxiliary Re enactment in the United States and Canada.

We do welcome various historically acurate Auxiliary Impressions once cleared by our Centurio, and we would like to be a site/source of information for others seeking information on the Auxiliary Troopers of Rome.

We are a growing organization that will continue to improve with time. Pleaese send any comments or positive feedback and critcism to myself at :
[email protected] or drop me a PM here.

COHORS TRES ITALICA C.R. welcomes you to the world of an auxiliary impression! I looked at your "commands". We don't use 'pila' and 'gladius' related commands for auxiliaries. Of course, since auxiliaries were the only troops in Judea during the period of AD 25-35, we know who really carried out the executions.

Be well!

Good work and good luck...

This is just an FYI, but it does deal with the Auxillia.

Spellcheck is not working, and I am a lousy speller. Product of the New Mexico school system.

While New Mexico is not an active place for reenactments, for whatever reason, we have done this in the way of creating an Auxillia impression, for whatever its worth. In October we (V Macedonica, Cohors III) got asked to be part of a film, now in production. I dont want to comment on the film much without clearance from the producer. Anyway, she wanted a dozen reenactors, which of course did not exist. I got as much armour together as practical and fielded what could be done under short notice.

This included two Auxillia impressions, which were labled II Cohors Asturas. I purchased two black "teabag" tunics for this, on a vague allusion to the possibility that units recruited in northern Spain might retain the traditional black tunic and cloak. Two black background shields were also made. The movie part went pretty well.

The aftemath was that I also bought four segmentatas with the idea in mind to use these and the Auxillia equipment as "loaner gear" to help new members get started, (shoud any prospective members actually exist).

There was some loose talk with the film producer to do something associated with Judea circa 30 BC as stock footage for future sale. I did point out that the local troops were, in all probabliity, Auxillia, including the "Cohors Italica" that has been identified with the II Cohors Italica CR. I believe this is very conjectural, but I have an impression from pictorial reference that white, or off-color white tunics with black clavi MAY represent citizenship. This is just a hunch, though. This is what I was going to do if we ever did a shoot. I don't know what the tunic color debate is for Auxillia, or even if there is one, and given the fallout over the Legionary tunic issue, would run screaming from such...

Best of luck with the II Cohors Italica Civium Romanorum.

It was a cmmand decision to tkeep the same command set FOR NOW that we use with Legio VI. If the auxiliaries grow, we will look at making some Auxiliary specific drill commands, jeesh, we cannot even settle up our own commands! So for now they stand, if the Auxies take off, we will elt them go with a new set...

Just kidding! I somehow don't think that the airlines would go for shipping beer in a decompressed hold! Big Grin

I am a great fan of this Italian beer BTW (for obvious reasons! )

Give me a 20 minute warning and I'll have Peroni Beer in the fridge for you!!

I am rather fond of Guiness and Boddington's myself, but then again, I don't think there is a beer that I had that I didn't like.
