Thanks for the tip about steel armour Jasper! I kind of suspected something like that but never dared to try.
I am far from being good enough to use oil and enamels are really too much of a pain in the rear end, so I use the ubiquitous acrylics.
I recently bought a IIIrd cen. AD cavalryman (on foot), I think from Soldiers. The one with the very ornate Teilenhofen helmet.
But I am still in the long, hard look phase (and some tentative skeches of the shield device) .
Wish me luck..
..And about gold or bronze armour: I was thinking about real gold foil. What do you think?

That would have to be reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally thin foil, so as not to obscure any detail on the model. An often heard (but never tried by me) trick is the use of printers ink. Seems to be less granular than enamel or acrylic gold paint.
Greets
Actually it's not gold foil. I was thinking about gold leaf.(I checked in a dictionay... <!--
You know the stuff used in the back of luxury books, for instance. It's one micron thick and you use it with a special brush. It's so thin it actually floats in the air.
I guess it needs some training first.

Edited by: Antoninus Lucretius at: 1/1/02 6:31:28 pm
