IIRC when Caesar was about to fight Ariovistus, in order to raise the fighting spirit of his legionaires he said something like "yes, the Germans are tall, but slim and badly built, and they can´t bear fatigue"

His warriors and soldiers are built like fire-plugs, evidently 4 foot 7 inches on average, whatever that is in metres.
