Hi all,

as a very new member, not even 24 hours please excuse if I post this in the entirely wrong section, but I have developed a collection of roman helmet replicas and I have noticed that where the oily substance is removed a little surface rust has appeared.

Does anyone know what type of "oily" substance is used in transport of these helmets and does anyone have any maintenance tips.

the rust does add a little authenticity to an old helmet

Hi Stephen,
Yes, this is really the wrong area to ask your question. Try reposing it in Reenactment and Reconstruction.
Welcome to RAT, btw!
