Ave!

How many members from the UK are here?

I'm from St Albans in England, where are you from?

What do you find most interesting about this Forum?

What other interests do you have?

I'm from the UK [ "I'm from the UK!" "I'M from the UK" "I'M from the UK - and so is my wife!"}

I do Greeks, Romans (inc. Gladiators) Saxons, Vikings, Normans [Hrrrrgghhh! Ptoo!] and, occasionally, Egyptians - see my website at www.vikingvisits.org . Other interests? Who has the time?! Like most re-enactors, I try to combine all my interests with re-enactment. Bit difficult working the Bonsai in, though...

Ave Paul,

Thank you for responding in such a positive and enthusiastic way.

The purpose of this thread is to discover who's where and what their interests are. There are absolutely no sinister motives behind the questions.

I'm hoping that other members will start threads for their own countries, asking the same questions.

Did you know that out of the 700+ registered members less than 60 have indicated where they are?

There could be many benefits in us, collectively, knowing where we all are.

What do you think, is this something to aim towards?

I'm from sleepy ole Suffolk, living 200metres from the North Sea.

Main interest would have to be the units of Batavian auxiliaries, but auxilia in general.

I ride a bit and would Luurve to be able to afford to fully equip myself as a first century cavalryman. Big Grin

I'm a committee member of the RMRS (Leg XIIII GMV)

I'm from Birmingham in the West Midlands (or to be more precise: I was born in Kingston upon Hull, lived in Kirk Ella in the East Riding, went to live in various places in southern New Zealand for twenty two years, came back and lived some time in Basingstoke, before moving to Birmingham).
I'm interested in absolutely everything, but especially in early imperial pugiones. Big Grin

Ave!

Thank you all very much for your comments.

You may have noticed the new topic "Location Of Members (LOM)!" which was launched this morning. The purpose of these two topics is to encourage our fellows members to be a bit more informative in their profiles. I am not asking anyone who wishes to remain anonymous to divulge any more than he or she wishes.

We all have our own reasons for being members of this Forum. One of our collective common grounds is a shared interest in the variety of subjects discussed here.

The inclusion of a country in your profile is a forward step in identifying regional groupings of our membership. May I ask that those of you who have posted in this thread to please look at your own profile and ensure that UK is entered.

At the moment, the UK occupies the No. 1 position in the chart posted this morning. Let's see if we can keep it that way.

Thank you for reading this.

I live in York, from Cheshire originally.

I have found it very useful that folk have taken to putting unit shields and links to their group sites in their signatures - it's always handy to spot fellow members from Comitatus, as sometimes discussion crosses over from our own email list and it is interesting to see other active groups.

The Forum is very useful for swapping research & practical info - it is a very steep learning curve for us newbies & I hate to bother my group members all the time with questions they have probably already answered for me.

I'm very enthusiastic about experimental archaeology & what light re-enactment can shed on history & the level of scholarship represented on the forum is exceptional.

I also joined Holderness, re-enacting through the Migration period into the Viking Age. This is a founding member group of Regia Anglorum, although they are now pretty independent for most of their events.

I have a wide range of other interests - I'm the chair of a parish council, spending a lot of time trying to stop a huge housing estate & access road getting built on the site of the 1066 Battle of Fulford. I perform in amateur musicals in local theatres - currently I'm rehearsing The King & I, & I write & perform what you might call modern folk & bluegrass and dabble with photomanipulation.

Sometimes I sleep...

Thank you all for your considerable contributions.

Contrary to my earlier statement, the only way for your location to register towards a combined total, is for your country to be the only item in the location box.

London - wrong
London, UK - wrong
London, England - wrong
Glasgow, Scotland, UK - wrong
Cardiff, Wales, UK - wrong
Belfast, N. Ireland, UK - wrong

UK - right

If you wish to elaborate on your location, in your profile, you can always add your own details to the interests box (as per the example below)

Location:- St Albans, Hertfordshire, England, UK

Apologies for the earlier misunderstanding.
