NEW RECRUITS
I'm from Arkadelphia ,AR. I am 14 years old. I re-enact the War of Northern Aggression(aka. American Civil War).
I have always had a small interest in Rome, mainly the Roman Army, though I don't know a lot. I watched Caeser on TNT and that kinda revived it.

Hello

I am a new poster to Roman Army Talk. I have recently joined Legio XXI out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada but have been a citizen of Nova Roma for two and a half years. My interest in Rome started in university where I minored in Ancient History.

In the near future, I will be putting together a full kit and hopefully I will be able to help Legio XXI and Nova Roma grow in western Canada and Edmonton in particular.
Salvete!
I am Marcus Quintius Clavus. I have been lurking around Roman Army Talk for about 3 months, but have had a life long interest in the Roman Army, since 5 or 6 years old. Sunday School "comic strips" starting my passion for collecting pictures of Roman legionaries.
I live in Connecticut, USA and first hooked up with LegioXX in 2001, attending my first event with them in Sept. 2001. After attending their Roman Days Event in June, 2002, I was on my way with obtaining kit. I am finally living a life long dream!!
Currently, I am officially a member of Legion XXIV based out of Media Atlantia (Philadelphia, PA area).
I, of course, travel extensively from Maryland to Maine in pursuit of re-enacting opportunities, but would like to hook up with other Roman Army re-enactors in Connecticut/Massachusetts/Upstate NY area as well. Weekends are best for me until next year and more vacation!
Oddly enough, even before I found any re-enacting groups, I had helped a college professor friend of mine by coming to his night classes to talk about the Roman Army.

By the way, I have found much good information via Roman Army Talk, and particularly look forward to hearing about new books and films and TV programs, as well as up to date info on the other many aspects of the Roman Army.
A heartfelt welcome to all of our new memebers It amazes me how widespread the interest is in all things Roman. The younger generation and the....well.....ahem.....ummm....young generation can all have this common interest. Wow
Greetings! I am Decimus Mercatius Varianus, a new recruit to this forum.

I currently live in the village of Foresthill, Socialist Republik of Kalifornia...

I became interested in Rome a few years ago as I had a roommate who had joined LEGIO XX and was making his kit. I found the idea of doing Roman fascinating as, unlike the other periods I already do (WWI and WWII), there is so much still to be learned about this period.

I also own www.reenactor.net so I try and keep up on many of the periods of history -- this one is just a lot more interesting to me!

Hello everyone,
First off I'm new to R.A.T. and just joined Legio XXIV. My name is Mike but I also am a citizen of Nova Roma of the name Quintus Cassius. I love Roman history particularly the military aspect of it. That is also what prompted me to join Legio XXIV so I can "experience" it so to say. I am also 23 years old and Just graduated from Franklin Pierce College with a B.A. in Criminal Justice and Political Science. I wanted to tack on history with a concentration on Rome or at least within that region. But maybe later down the road I can. I also am interested in learning Latin at some point. But that is me in a nutshell I guess.
Hi there,

I'm a recent History BA graduate with a Latin minor from the fabulous University of Idaho. My primary focus (unofficial though since it's just a general History degree) if you looked at my classes was the Classical World, China, and Military History. I'm planning on doing some work on the Roman military as graduate work when I go to London, UK for my MA in War Studies.

I've been captivated by Rome and her military since my sophomore year of high school when I took a world history class and the instructor told us about his favorite part of history: Rome.

I'm primarily a wargamer too when it comes to hobbies and I've built a (deliberately wrong looking, they look more like Hollywood than history) Praetorian Guard army for Warhammer Ancient Battles.
Salve Praefectus,
If all goes to plan I should be in London this October until at least next September (here's hoping they let me stay for a PhD... ) Idaho isn't quite the place to be studying either Ancient Chinese military history, Roman military history, or naval history. Are there any good academic journals on Roman military studies or Classical Military studies that anyone can recommend to me?
Hello!

I'm Jim. I've always been interested in the Ancient Romans but never got beyond the Hollywood form of research. For example, the movie Gladiator is the foundation of my knowledge of Ancient Rome.

Right now I'm studying Ancient Greece, from around 550 BC until Alexander's death. Beyond these years probably won't serve me, plus study time is limited. My interst in the Greek world began after I read Hanson's book, Carnage and Culture. His description of the battles of Salamis and Guagamela were incredible!

I suppose I'm ethnocentric... But I'll keep my politics outside this board. My knowledge is limited and I probably won't be able to add anything here anyway, except in the off-topic forum. Studying the Ancient Greeks and eventually the Ancient Romans will help me understand my own culture (American) better.

The only thing about history that bothers me is that I can't live a few extra centuries and find out how the United States turns out.
"Saladin, we have returned.
