It does? I was planning on using some pigbladders to keep me afloat. And if I can drum up 170 able rowers, I'll come in a trireme.
Hello everyone!
I'm a 37 year old loan officer from Springfield, Oregon.
I've always been interested in history, but Roman history has always been my favorite topic! I have thought of joining a legion for quite some time now and since I can't contact anyone from Legio II Agustus, in Portland Oregon, I'm looking into Legio IX, in San Diego. I'm a retired army sergeant, and have a degree in history from the U of O. I have been collecting my kit for a few months now and will soon be looking to actually participate! Feel free to email me if you care to talk.
Hey all, be sure to include pictures of yourself if you like, in Roman gear or in your "normal" persona.
P.S. This is me with my brother Will, who cooperated patiently even though he's a church organist and not a re-enactor. I actually made the male kit for mein mann -- we'll see if he ever wears it or not.
My personal pictures disappeared again: was it an haruspex's magic spell?
Even if the option is on (always was so, since it worked the first times), after a couple of posting it has disappeared...

Sander (thank you),

please be patient, I don't think to understand the first method you mention... What have I to do exactly?
Jenny, (or anyone) do you have tips for me how to involve my spouse? The kids are no problem, but she's not THAT much interested, as least not as much as me.
Try bribery, Robert. Offers for certain bedtime favors seems to do the trick... M
KIDDING!!! (well, maybe not, I actually haven't tried that. It would probably work!)

I guess you have to make it look fun for them, not just sitting around patiently while you do your thing. It probably helps if they know someone else in the group and can look forward to socializing with them at events.

We should start a thread on this in the R&R forum.
I am 22 years old active duty Marine stationed in southern CA. I have always been interisted in military history. Since joining the SCA a few months ago I have taken a decidely Roman bent. I am content to wear my quasi roman helmet (with ugly face grill) and deepeka sandals and my home made tunica. I don't think the strict authenticty of reenacting is for me. But I look forward to learning from everyone.
