I'm new here (as you can see) and am a student that is very into Rome and the medieval ages. I do not really have enough money laying around to join one of these re-enactment clubs but am fascinated by the whole idea. Anyway, I'm usually in six feet of paperwork (I bet you all know what that feels like) and have little time to do the whole armour making thing. Although ive made a chainmaile shirt once.... Well I guess I will be seeing you guys around. And as we say in my land, Fare You Well!

We have members in the Phila area, and one Celtic in New Jersey. There is the XXIV legion in Phila as well, the URL escapes me but its on our page: www.larp.com/legioXX 
 
And we do have a fabricum/workshop coming up the first Saturday in June in northern Virginiia, as well as Roman Days June 8-9 in Maryland, to the both of which you're quite welcome. Richard Campbell, Legio XX.

I hail from New Jersey, and have always had an interest in the Roman Empire. University only reinforced that, and I have fun these days seeing how many books I own are in the bibiliographies of recent Roman History books. 
 
Anyone read Barton's new book; "Roman Honor"? 
 
I'm also a Chatti reenactor, although from a much later period.

I live in Saskatoon, SK, I have been into learning about the roman army for about 3 years, and I have my kit partly done. Stell need to make a few things. I just wanted to say hey.

Recruit Auxilia reporting for duty! : ) 
 
I've only recently developed an interest in Roman warfare and military organisation. This interest was largely due to miniature wargaming which led me to find out more on this topic. The specific periods that appeal to me are the Late Republic esp Julius Caesar's Gallic campaigns (I've recently finished reading his account of the Gallic Wars. Exciting stuff!) and Early Imperial Rome, 1st - 2nd century AD. 
 
I hope to learn more about the Roman military through joining this forum. I trust that others more knowledgeable than me will enlighten my relatively ignorant self on such matters. : )

Hello to all, 
 
I am sorry it has taken me so long to introduce myself. I have been perusing the Roman Army Talk for some time but did not register for a while and then did not post for even longer. 
 
I am a thirty year old Ancient Historian from New Zealand and am currently enrolled in a PhD at Sydney University. My specialist field is the genre of didactic military handbooks (Frontinus, Polyaenus, Aelian, Arrian, Onasander, Vegetius et. al.) and my particular axe to grind is that these were of some practical benefit despite modern historians and philologists low opinion of them. 
 
I am therefore concerned with Roman military history and theory generally for and for anything I can glean from it for my purposes. 
 
I hope to be a more frequent poster in the months ahead and I look forward to meeting you all.

Salvs! My name is Minervalis.male,Im 25, in california. Im a fine artist who is classicaly trained. I became interested in rome and all ancient mediterranean culture when i was about two or three years old. Im currently building(oh when there is time!) an auxiliary panopoly....and thinking about a veles set of gear too. I would like eventually to reenact. also im interested in old med swordsmanship. I have many interests and i love learning. But art is my expertise. Especially pre 1900. "Virtutem Forma Decorat"
