Pablo,
Spangenhelme were constructed of rivetted segments. Some of the ridge helmets were so constructed too but all of them have the longitudinal ridge which define the type. Related but different concepts.

No, I used some cutters (also called 'tin snips' in the UK), like heavy duty scissors. I use them to make greaves too.
