Roman Military Religion
#1
Hello all!

I am really interested in Roman military religion, and I know a fair bit about Mithraism, but I'm curious about the other cults as well. Can anyone fill me in, or suggest a good source to check out? (I already have "Military Religion in Roman Britain" by Georgia Irby-Massie.

Thanks!

What languages do you read?

There are some good eassyas in English in the ANRW and a number of publications in German (and doubtless some in French and italian I'm unaware of). I'll dig for more details.

Ankersdorfer, H: Studien zur Religion des röm,ischen Heeres (Konstanz 1973)

Helgeland, J.: Roman Army Religion in: ANRW II, 16, 2, pp. 1470-1505

Speidel, M.P. and Dimitrova-Milceva, A.: The Cult of the Genii in the Roman Army in: ANRW II 16.2. pp. 1542-1555

That's what I can find right now. Any of them useful?

Thanks so much! I will definitely check out those 2 in English. I'd love to be able to read German, but never got that far, I'm afraid.

Thank you!
