It's beautiful! It's true!

Can we get details of the borders around the edge and umbo?

Dear Caius,

I think your shield is very well painting (by the front side) but you have some “technical secretsâ€

Hi!
As I wrote in an other thread, I do not have very much time at the moment...

I do not understand this part of your question:
Quote:What measures have and if was the minimum fighting resistance?

The form is a simple convex shield form of solid oak, slightly larger than the oval Dura Europos shields. On top of that we construct the shield body out of three layers of polar stripes, each of which is around 3 cm wide and 2mm stong. Towards the end the stripes are thinned out just like for construction of a barrel. The stripes are glued side by side and layer upon layer. When the glue is dry, we take the shield off the form. On top of the shield body we glue a layer of rawhide, on the inner side linen. We use glue on a skin-bone base. Tha'ts about it.

This peculiar shield and its predecessors are from our old form, which is too narrow. The next shield I will paint, and the following shields are from a form of the size described above.

Cheers, Caius
