My Late Roman Tunic
#1
..ok I got bored with making baelti last night, and I decided to sew a late Roman tunic. Its made from a heavy fustian in a offwhite colour with olive green applied orbs, and clavi. This is my first attempt! So please point out where I made the mistakes

Looks O.K. to me, laid flat as it is - nice one. Smile Any particular reason you went for green?

I chose green simply because I had some scrape green in the same type of material the tunic is sewn from. Big Grin

Are you planning mid length clavii?

Great work, Paul!

Here are my tunics. They are not historically accurate and I use them when I talk to the hordes  .... Actually I use them in our summer-house after the sauna. The right one is made of cotton (not historically accurate) and the other one of linen. The patterns are not based on any actual items, they are just my imagination.

Perhaps I shoul next make a 3th century tunic with a swastika pattern? You know, Finnish air forces had a swastika on their planes in world war two, standing flat on it´s side, not like the nazi-swastika standing on it`s edge. As you all know, swastika is a very old aryan symbol which represents the solar disc if I remember correctly. At least Piazza Armerina mosaics shows those flat finnish airforce type swastikas....

Primvs,

Nice attempt!

I would probably move the orbiculi at the shoulders out slightly to allow space for clavi.

Anyway, well done.

Crispvs,

These are perfectly postitioned on my shoulders now. I wish I would have added the clavi, but alas I ran out of this colour material. Is there any evidence for tunics without clavi?
