The enemy is less likely to get wind of an advance of cavalry, if the orders for march were passed from mouth to mouth rather than announced by voice of herald, or public notice. Xenophon

Speaking of Amazon and Stephen Pressfield, I've just started reading his Last of the Amazons, set in the Athens of Theseus. I had a good haul at the Barnes and Noble bargain rack the other day. The above-mentioned, The Last King about Mithridates VI Eupator, by Michael Curtis Ford, Hadrian's Wall set in 122 AD, by William Dietrich, and The War at Troy by Lindsay Clarke. I started with Pressfield because I loved Gates of Fire and Tides of War. Anyone read any of the others -- recommendations for which to read next?

I also got Latin Quips at Your Fingertips by Rose Williams and X-treme Latin by Henry Beard (Author of Latin for All Occasions), just for reference... 8)

I have to say, I was a little disappointed of his previous Alexander book, The Virtues of War. To have Alexander narrate in the first person just didn't work, IMO. Gates of Fire was far superior. But I'm interested in this one, if it focuses more on the nitty-gritty of war it might be more up Pressfield's alley.
