Hi everyone, I am new to Roman Army Talk and aam enjoying it very much. Could anyone tell me where on line I can get plans of Legionary fortresses. I am especially interested in plans of headquarters buildings. Thanks in advance. Regards, Legonis (Alan).

Hi Legonis / Alan,

Welcome to RAT.

If you go here to the Vindolanda site you will find a map of the Principia:

This also has links to other plans including the whole fort.

and here for Housesteads:

Many years ago I did a lot of research into building both end of day defensive marching camps and more permanent defensive forts. I recall that at the time I made good use of a book that described the modern recreated fort in Lunt, England. I thought the book was an excellent resource for all things related to the planning and layout of that fort.

I will try and find out the resource name and get back to you. Otherwise, if you are near a library and do a catalog search, you might find it.
