Khairete Gioi,
It says it was filmed over two years in Greece, Turkey, Syria, Egypt and Iran - yes and footage of real locations or near enough...!
It's not the same fellow, but he does looks familiar.
I will have to order that and The True Story, I have found somewhere that does Region 2....!

I am nearly as bad as I was in my teens over Alex and the Ancient Greeks/Macedonians/Trojans etc....

As I recall it, the Greek movie was announced because both Oliver Stone and Baz Luhrman wanted to show an Alexander who was homosexual. I have also read about a movie from Pakistan and a project in Iran.

That its what I hate to do with Alexander, Ok! if was or wasnt' Homosexual,

Movies that enfasis in his sexuality I dont like it, there is more important thing than that, dont you think!??? Smile

But I rather like things that make enfasis in his military skils, and as political... His private life or his sexual preference it is something that I would not like to be conserned, But for me all his glorius deeds had blind me from what he was in his private herotic relations....

Arthes for some quite time I'm after some realy good documental of Alex that I saw in some channel? Sad

It really awesome me, the guy who reenact as Alex give the command in greek, also the battle of Gaugamela was reconstructed in CG from the air view, also more accurate than Oliver's movie, it was awesome...

But sadly I dunno wich documental was, I remember the guy & his bronce plastic armor, & the army.. I guess it was in discovery channel, but at that time TV were showing al lot of new & old stuf about greece & Alex, just before Farrell Oliver movie...

Perhaps this one, I dunno! I would keep searching!.

Khairete,
I have the Michael Wood 'In Search of Troy', I originally watched that on television and a downloaded 'Ancient Warriors -Spartans' which features members of Legio XIV [url:1s1j06uh]http://www.legion-fourteen.com/greeks.htm!!!
The 'Real Olympics' looks interesting......I used to love 'Ben Hur' for the chariot race, gory as it was....it is still one of the best depictions I have seen on film!
Do you know that the first women to win the Olympic chariot race was a Spartan Princess called Cynisca .....? In 396bce she won in a four horse chariot and again in 392bce
There was an inscription at Olympia, declaring that she was the only female to win the wreath in the chariot events at the Olympic Games

She was the trainer and owner but sadly she couldn't drive the chariot herself. One of her maile relatives drove it. She won the wraith the same way that Phillip II won it.

The only woman to have been ever admited just to watch the games was
Kallipateira.
She was daughter of Olympic champion, married to an Olympic champion and had three sons-all three-Olympic champions :!: :!: :!: :!:

What a Lady :!: :!: :!:

Kind regards

Is this story true, that she disguised herself as her son's male trainer and accidentially lost her disguise when she leapt over the barrier to congratulate him on winning? That's why all athletes had to appear naked from then on......it's a fascinating story and yes, what a women....Big Grin

I'm glad he is, but are we...?

Farrell says he's finally over "Alexander" flop
ROME (Reuters) – Hollywood stars don't usually like to talk about their professional flops, especially when not asked about them.

But Colin Farrell defied his "bad boy" reputation on Tuesday by speaking about his disappointment with the poor reviews and box office sales of "Alexander," Oliver Stone's 2004 film in which the actor played the bleached-blond conqueror.

The admission was all the more surprising as it came after gushing praise by a news conference moderator at the Rome film festival, who said he had seen Farrell calm an agitated horse on the set of Alexander by talking to it.

"Alexander hurt, you know -- and again people are going to say 'Get over it, you were well paid' and all that. But Alexander hurt," Farrell told reporters.

"The response that it got was really painful and all of us got a really hard time, and I didn't come across too well either in the majority of reviews and even with the audiences -- people did not respond to it.

"It was a film that was made to be seen by many people. Not many people saw it and they weren't particularly fond of it, and that was s

," he said.

Farrell, along with co-stars Angelina Jolie and Val Kilmer, was nominated for worst actor for his portrayal of the ancient Greek military leader at the 2005 Razzie awards, which recognize what its organizers deem the worst films of the year.

The film, with a budget estimated at $155 million, grossed $34 million at home, said tracking site www.boxofficemojo.com .

"I took it to heart. I felt like I had let a lot of people down, I felt like I had disappointed a lot of people ... And it took a while to get over that," Farrell said.

PRIDE AND GLORY

Sporting shoulder-length hair, the 32-year old Irish actor -- in Rome to present cop drama "Pride and Glory" -- said he had now come to terms with the failure.

"I probably got a bit disillusioned after that. I think only in the last couple of years starting with 'Pride and Glory' has that disillusionment ceased to be something that is still present in my life regarding the work," he said.

Farrell stars opposite Edward Norton and Jon Voight in "Pride and Glory," the portrait of a police family which find itself on opposite sides of a corruption scandal.

The movie opened at a disappointing no. 5 at the North American box office at the weekend and has had mixed reviews.

It is the only U.S. film in the main competition at the Rome festival, which this year has a light Hollywood presence.
