Deepeeka helmets
#1
I couldn't find any info on the Phrygian helmet (AH 6112) and the Ribchester cavalry helmet (AH 6713) made by Deepeeka. Are these fairly accurate reconstructions?

The ribchester from Deepeeka is nice to display but you couldn't wear it. The mask is way to heavy, being casted.

They are just for display, but would still have to be pretty accurate for me to buy them. I read somewhere around here that the ribchester was a little on the wide side. When I looked at pictures of the original I could tell it was a little less wide. Are there any other problems? BTW the phrygian helmet isn't a replica of a specific find is it?

Then you also have to state how you would define 'pretty accurate'. It's an Indian product, which make that you get a piece at an attractive price, but if you also would account for production methods, the Ribchester isn't accurate, as (if I'm right) the mask is casted, where the original wasn't made that way at all. Probably that also goes for the bowl decorations. But, okay, nobody could give you a hand-decorated helmet for such a price as the Deepeeka will cost you. For the look, it probably is a nice one, but I never compared it to the original that good to say something on the look.

It looking correct is more important to me than the way it was fabricated, because I'm not willing to spend ten times the amount that these two helmets cost. I'm just a poor student you know.

Hi all

I got a Phrygian, and I think it is based in something like the one I put on attached files. It is from Axel Guttmann collection. The shape is not correct, if you see the upper part, in the deepeeka helmet is smaller than the original (that is not good if you want to attach a crest for example), and the cheekpieces are too big, and don't fit correctly to the face (but you always can put it off). You can see how it looks like in my avatar and in "show here your greek warrior impression" post.

But anyway, is not easy to find a good phrygian, manning imperial does a wonderful one with a base price of 830$. My Phrygian was 100 €, what more can I ask? The deepeeka one with some modifications does't look too bad.

On which page would that be? I can't seem to find it.

By the way, without the cheekpieces it kind of looks like this Tongue
