Analysing Diplomas?
#16
Quote:How are you going to link this to the "face"?

I'm thinking we'll have to devise some kind of form by which you enter stuff in the database. When doing that, you'd need to put enters behind every /
Another template would provide the output.
Greets!

Ave Jasper,

More thoughts on this database.

Would it be possible to create a new Subforum for Diplomas? I've compiled a list of topics that could be moved into this new forum. They are all of my posts plus topic # 1777, 1807, 1814, 4365, 4538, 5258, 4206 and 4715. Also any others that you think might prosper in a new specialist home with less general competition.

01. Could the database be accessed from this new Subforum?
02. Would you then get the search screen up?
03. Would each diploma have it's own "face"?
04. Would you then get up one or many "faces", depending on your search criteria?
05. Each "face" is linked to the database which contains the raw data?
06. Each "face" has permanent (protected) data (links) as well as updateable data?
07. Do you think Andreas Pangerl could be persuaded to lend us aid with our project? His scans of diplomas would be invaluable?
08. Would we need to get permission from RMD to include data from their series of publications?
09. We're going to be lacking additional information when it comes to inputing the CIL series? They date from the 1800s to the early 1900s? There is no similar publication like RMD from which to "crib" information, unless you know otherwise?

That will do for now, until I think of more things to write about.

A new subforum could be done, however, I don't want it to be a private database discussion area for us. In that case, I'd better give you access to the Romanarmy Staff forum.

01. You mean actively? That'd be hard.
02. I'd have to construct the database first. That will take some cursing, gnashing of teeth and pulling out of hairs.
03. Yes, that's what you can do with a database, just like the imagebase
04. I'd say you'd get a screen with search results from which you can go to individual screens/diploma
05. Yes, it displays that raw data
06. I'd go for a separate add/update screen, for security reasons
07. Perhaps. By all means ask him.
08. If you mean scanning: let's not do that. Refer to information, with reference, that's not a problem.
09. Actually CIL XVI itself is from the 1930's, I think, with the supplement from the 50's or 60's, but no, it does not include as much information. Have access to the real thing? (Live near a uni?)
Greets!
