Greek statues Aphaia temple
#1
A German professor from Munich, whose name I do not remember, has studied ancient sculptures of the Aphaia temple in the Munich Glyptothek with UV-light. He is now able to reconstruct the patterns of painting that were once there. The results were shown in a nice exposition in the Amsterdam Allard Pierson Museum ( http://cf.uba.uva.nl/apm/FrameSet2.html )

I've seen this archer before, but these are particularly good pictures of it. The stele of Aristion was new to me. Thanks for posting them, Jona.

I saw this statue during my visit to Carlsberg NY Glyptotek in Copenhagen!

Here are my shots:

On a second note, I also found the Peplos Kore in polycolor:

I have not spent months gathering Hoplites from the four corners of the earth just to let
some Swedish pancake in a purloined panoply lop their lower limbs off!
