Mmh. Being already in Kent, you could hurry to Archeon and be back in time for Kelmarsh...

Sandra- we're lucky to have performed in most of the Shore forts (or in some cases the remaining mounds of grass).
Richborough & Portchester have been our favourites, but Reculver & Burgh Castle have proved good venues... Brancaster & Bradwell have provided photo opportunities, but not shows.
Dover's is under the modern town now, but here's a pic of us on the cliffs back in 2000... standing there Dad's army style.
But you're lucky to have York to play in... and you're not that far from the Wall which must provide great backdrops/show potential.
Robert, yep we have an old draco, the top picture on my first post was taken by the guy holding it (and the bottom pic was taken by our jeering & cheering Germanic/Migration mob at the end of a weekend in Richborough).
Archaeon... Sounds so tempting, but I think this may clash with a big gladiator show... client is still making up their mind on the date... I will keep you posted!

How about Pevensey (that being my favorite)?

Please do. If not this year, then another.

Gah! How could I have forgotten Pevensey.... lovely site, like Portchester one has to try and avoid being photographed in front of the huge medieval modifications (keeps) that some inconsiderate person has added sometime in the last few hundred years... without planning permission I hasten to add!!!

Nice helmet, though maybe too many rivets? How heavy is it?

Oh it's heavy enough to soak up a few blows.
Had it hammered out recently, so I could wear it comfortably again.
I've had it now for about 16 years... commissioned at a time when some armourers used to say "Late Roman?...er ...um ...Look I've got a nice medieval sallet over here why not have that?"
I was chuffed about the radiate collar on my old set of scale (pictured above)... 1994 guesswork, based only on the Isola Rizza dish... then they went a found a similar scale collar in Carlisle in 2002.
Got a call from my archaeologist mate in the group saying "You distressed your old armour and buried in order to justify it didn't you!"
Look how knackered I am in that last pic (taken at the end of the weekend) phew!
