Deepeeka legionary belts.

Salve patres!

Is the D legionary belts any thing to put your money on? I know the old one is quite ropey but how about the ones they have now?

Thanks!

There are some negative points about the belt. Cast plates, it's rather heavy, and the apron straps are made out of thick leather (and they are attached seperately so they can be rearanged to fit different waistsizes) . It has good pugio frogs and a nice buckle though.

If you want one I will sell you mine, I have one lying around unused (one of the new ones).

Kind regards,

I wouldn't. Some of the new belts have one or two components which are usable, but I don't think any of the complete belts are accurate enough. The "RGZM" belt probably comes closest in most ways, but the way the radial dome motif is repeated on the pugio frogs, apron discs, and terminals seems incorrect to me However, I have not seen the original pieces so I can't be sure--if nothing else, it makes it darn heavy! The "Centurion" belt is based on a grave stele carving, and I think it's too wide--no belt parts have been found that are that large.

If you can get some of the loose parts, like the smaller buckle and frogs, and match them up with your own plain plates or pieces from Raymond's Quiet Press or Albion (in the Moat sale, currently), you'll get a much better belt.

Otherwise, order a complete one custom-made from Len Morgan, David Hare, Matt Lukes, or another reliable craftsman.

Vale,

If you want a very good cingulum I'd recommend Matt Lukes. His work is superb and his prices are very good. Robert Norton also makes very good belts.

I would also recommend Matt L.

I just got my balteus and baltric from him. Real beauties!

He is capable to design and manufacture a suitable balteus for the time period you wish. There are for example some differences between the 1st century and the later balteus models.

He also have the real pieces and he is manufacturing the balteus based on these.
