Wearing and Fit of the Lorica Hamata
#1
Hello All,

Question.. I have been searching here and at a few of the Legio Web Sites and I have yet to find some information that I am looking for.

What is the proper wear and fit of the Lorica Hamta, could anyone provide a link to a previous post or pictures?

I just received my new Lorica Hamata yesterday and I really love it, but since I am only 5 foot and 8 inches, it wears a bit big on me I think.

I can blouse up the mail at the waist to not only relieve a bit of the weight off my shoulders, but to get it perfectly at thigh length.

The doubler seems to pull back a bit due to its weight and ride a bit low on my back,..

Would it be appropriate to use small leather ties to help secure the doubler a bit more in place? The chain links have it solidly in place btw.

I love it....just want to make sure I am wearing it all fine tuned like.

thanks all,
Cheers!!

If weight is a problem then it is likely that your reconstruction is too heavy. A hamata should weigh under 20 lbs. A belt around the waist will help though. If it is cinched tightly it will take some of the weight off the shoulders and redistribute it on the hips. If it is too long then remove a few rows of links from the bottom. You can also try thicker shoulder padding on your subarmarlis to help the shoulder doublings sit comfortably.

Dan,
thanks..

I may have to shorten it a bit...the main shirt itself though does fit and wear comfortablely.

I guess I what I should have been a bit more clear on is the postioning of the doubler. I am guessiing that the back half of the leather lined doubler shoudl almost be up against the neck, with the two front flaps positioned either straight down or slightly angled in towards the sternum to insure that the heart and lung region is covered.

I am guessing that either one or two sets of the doubler buttons are acceptable and that this was designed to allow for sizing adjustments.

Is there a measurement or a positon that the doubler hooks should be be at?

thanks,

v/r

Don't forget to wear a padded subarmalis under your hamata. Heavy padding at the shoulders will help you with the weight strain at that area! Smile

It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

Send us a picture. To answer your question, grave steles show many styles and sizes of hamatas.
