Thanks for replying My ghost is also from York. I had a painting done of a roman soldier by a man who was born in York when his 92 year old father saw the painting he said I used to talk to one of them in my bedroom when I was a child. He apparently asked the soldier what his sword was called and the reply came back "Jani"I presume a form of Janus the god of portals, life death etc What do you think??
I am very interested in ghosts and the paranormal (started the ghostly Romans thread) and your story is fascinating.
I wonder if this soldier is related to a previous incarnation, or possibly he guided the artist to portray him, to let you know he was still there?
I have certain reactions in some areas of York, connected to the Romans, possibly due to a past life experience...although I love the city.

Arthes
Hi Sorry it has take me so long to reply. I'm still not sure how to post a reply correctly on this site. What is York like as a city? Of all the roman sited in england, york fascinates me the most! Is it a mysterious city for you because of your reactions when there?? Flavia
the way I felt whilst in the cellar was as though I had been breathing helium gas - along with shakiness, a sense of a strong spiritual presence closeby maybe.
York is a very mysterious city where you can feel very close to the past at times, but some of my reactions are not always pleasant and I was told that the Romans were not very pleasant to me in a lifetime there, I don't know who I was or what I did though or exactly what time period it was....
So much of it is old and I will walk into shops simply to look at the ancient beams and walls and wander down the snickleways to see what I haven't noticed or forgotten. You have to watch the geese though, I fed them by the Merchant Adventurer's Hall one day, tried to leave and found myself being escorted along the path by honking feathered beings Confusedhock:
It happened somewhere else recently...
I think I was also a goosegirl in a past life.....!

Hi The more I hear of York the more I want to see it , to feel it. I felt that way in Pompeii we went into a house caLLED THE HOUSE OF THE CRYPTOPORTICUS(a barrel domed place) and inside there were the casts of two women who had died together bodies entwined and a man also. I had to get OUT. Everywhere in that city you could sense, no feel, something there. You seem sensitive to these things as well and a few lucky (I guess) ones are. In my own home my 37 year old son only told me 2 years ago that he saw an old lady in our front bedroom when he was a child. He said she was sitting ona bed looking out a window. I only told him then that I had seen her in the hall three timesand that was her bedroom and she had died in the hall. His great uncle was killed in a car accident on a highway just out of town but the hill and corner were tamed only later. He was returning home one winter night when visibility was very poor and suddenly as he was rouding a corner he heard a voice either in this head or in the car saying get off the road. He obeyed and pulled to the right, just then a tanker truck came around the corner on his side. When he told me about it the next day I was shocked and told him that is the corner your great uncle died?? THen he was shocked!! Flavia aka Carolina
