Signa for maniple
#1
Polybius 2 signa for maniple , Varro 1 signum for maniple ; i have view france scholars (example Le Bohec) choice 1 signum , anglosaxon scholars for 2 signa.

On can think Polybius error on interpretation own sources , exchanging centurions priores with all centurions of legion (the centurion must choices the signifer) , or the second signifer for substitution in case of death of first signifer.

This has relevance on the role of maniple or century in the legion, position of century prior and posterior, ecc.

Opinions?
