Oh in the 16th century especially in Germany they made lots of funny looking helmets. I think the armours just had a humourus side, as at that time armour was only for show and hardly any more for the field.

Hi Arthes,
nice link - again. Almost not to believe that King Henry VIII. was so positively impressed by a helmet that looks - for my taste - more like a caricature. I have a link to another beautiful helmet that is no so bizarre, but nevertheless outstanding:

Reminds me somehow to the helmet worn by the gladiator 'Tigris of Gaul', Maximus' contractor in the tiger fight of the movie 'Gladiator'.

There is also the swan headed Roman one in the Junkelmann book on Parade Armour from the Guttmann collection (Römische Kampf- und Turnierrüstungen)- my scanner is currently broken so I can't upload...could someone else oblige?

I note that Henry has never been depicted in that suit of armour at all.I wonder why!About a year back i remember this suit being using in a TV programme about armour. The guy wearing it said it was the worst he had worn. :o lol:

I think the Vader helmet was influenced both by German WW2 And Japanese/Samurai Kabuto helmet - and the "Imperial Navy Garrison" troops have helmets that are very closely styled from the O-Royoi style Kabuto
At Higgins we have a 1500's/"Maximillian" style field armor that has an armet helmet that sports eyes, a toothy grin, much like the Henry helmet posted, a big pointy moustache, and a large visor pull that is easily mistaken for a cigarette sticking out the corner of the "mouth".
If the kids who come see it don't go crazy over the helmet, they get all riled up from the large, circular codpiece.
