Ave Romani!

Like a few others here I've just found this thread.
My name is Declan Dillman, and I live in boulder CO.
I spent four years in the US Navy on the USS John Paul Jones (named for the bassist from Led Zep...LOL)
I'm now a Gunner in the 1/157th Field Artillery(Army Nat'l Guard).
I work as an Electrician, and volunteer a significant amount of time with Boulder Emergency Squad,
a technical rescue and emergency support organization in Boulder CO.
....in my spare time I'm trying to get involved in roman reenacting, and of course there's no established legion in Colorado, perhaps I'll start one.

Welcome Declan! Make yourself at home with us. We're a friendly bunch. Sounds like a good idea to start a Colorado legion!
Hi,

My first post on this forum. First of all, happy new year!

I'm Geert Horvers, I live in Nimegen, the Netherlands and work in Amsterdam. I'm interested in Roman and ancient British history. I paint 25mm miniatures and plan to start an EIR army for WAB.

This activity (historical miniature wargames) and period are
relatively new for me. I've decided on WAB (because of the
availability of the rules) and 25mm (because I like to think I'm a
painter first and a gamer second). I've just started researching and
am currently reading Ceasar's The Conquest of Gaul. Next I'll be
looking for books on Boudica and Ancient Britains.

This looks like the best approach for me. It's an opportunity to
combine several interests. I'm partial to Romans ever since watching I
Claudius a long time back. I've read R.Graves books several times
over. British history interests me deeply as well. And My wife is
partial to Celts. Need I say more?

I look forward to reading your comments and suggestions.

Regards,

E EM I think this brings our total of Dutchmen at RAT to four??? Welcome! Maybe Magister Navis and Geert can join Sander, Jasper, and I at Mainz for our Roman museum tour and social get-together there?

Also to our British friends, the RomanArmy.com staff are planning to attend a Roman military epigraphy conference in London in May. If you want to meet us there for a few pints and fellowship with some of the Big Names in Roman army studies, let's chat in OT!
Hi Jenny & the rest!

A museum tour and social get-together of RA.com'ers in Mainz? Very interesting idea! Though I'm quite new to this RA.com thing, I've grown to like the community and would find it great to join a meeting with you, Sander and Jasper - and Geert, of course. When do you meet? I myself very much prefer a weekend...

Finally: What's the name of this "Roman military epigraphy conference in London in May"? And, staying in this topic, can it be that people of the RA.com staff participated in last years' ROMEC in Vindonissa ? Would have been a pity we did not meet there!

Greetings,
Hi Martin
To take the last one first, no staffers went to Romec, but of course Mike Bishop was there.

The congress was mentioned sometime earlier, but of course I can't find it now, you need Sander for that. The text is below.

Of course we want to meet in Mainz! It'll be somewhere in February probably, and I'd say a little longer than one weekend, it's quite a trip from overhere and there's a lot to see. Let's open a special thread in OT.
Hello... My name is Gil and my interest in Classical history started years ago. While travelling through North Carolina I came across many used book stores with a large selection of cheap books on warfare in antiquity. A lot were university texts. Coupled with an interest in wargames I found an era I could lose myself in.
